Here it is, our Face Book page’s annual pool party get-together at TCM’s film festival. AND NOT JUST ANY POOL. It’s the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel. Here is where I dive in to the deep end of the social pool ( and try not to drown ) as my natural nature is more introverted wading. It gets tricky for me to be able to pick up ~ within nano-seconds ~ the social cues. With some folks, a year’s absence feels like yesterday. With others…encounters I thought would go one way, proved me wonderfully wrong. And with others still, sadly, not much there. All this information is good to know, and can only help navigate around the gene pool that is the classic film fan. Throughout the weekend, random meet-ups would occur with lightning speed ~ without pre-invitation ~ and you’d be expected to be a mind-reader. Then there were moments carefully coordinated via text or PMs with the precision of an international summit. This whole mishmash of human encounter must be deciphered and decoded quickly and accurately, less that awkward moment slips in. I was approached by several people who were quite complimentary about my quips / tirades on FaceBook all to the positive good FOR classic films. Some let me know they enjoyed reading my blog ( if I may have a brief self-aggrandizing moment here: thankyewveddymuch. ) Look, I’m hardly Mother Teresa putting a salve on a world gone mad, but it is very heartening to hear from veritable strangers how some of my thoughts on classic film resonate positively with them. So I dive in to this crowd. My sense of humor helps buoy me. And so do Mojitoes. I basically hide behind my iPHONE’s camera and hope I don’t look too dorky when I jump in. I go with the flow…keep it moving and get these shots.
So lets get this party started…right!
