FERNANDO’s CORNER ~ Posted November 11th, 2016
I have just finished watching my old DVD of “ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT” (1930) (the third time I’ve seen this film). It hasn’t lost a bit of its punch, timelessness, poignancy, toughness et al. Excellent performances all around.
This is young Lew Ayres’ (21 years old ) finest hour. This film deserved all the awards it won and all the accolades…a true masterpiece. I have decided that I am going to buy the Blu~Ray restored release to appreciate the film in its fullest glory. “All Quiet On The Western Front” is a striking, touching document, that makes one realize the futility and uselessness of war…and all the selfishness, craziness, evil people who decide it and use fellow human beings as disposable goods.
