( 1930 ) ALL QUIET...

I have just finished watching my old DVD of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930) (the third time I’ve seen this film). It hasn’t lost a bit of its punch, timelessness, poignancy, toughness et al. Excellent performances all around.

This classic directed by Lewis Milestone from the novel by Erich Maria Remarque features Louis Wollheim, John Wray, Beryl Mercer, Slim Summervile, Poupée Andriot and Lew Ayres.

This is young Lew Ayres’ (21 years old ) finest hour. This film deserved all the awards it won and all the accolades…a true masterpiece. I have decided that I am going to buy the Blu~Ray restored release to appreciate the film in its fullest glory. “All Quiet On The Western Front” is a striking, touching document, that makes one realize the futility and uselessness of war…and all the selfishness, craziness, evil people who decide it and use fellow human beings as disposable goods.
