FERNANDO’s CORNER – Posted December 23rd, 2015
Finally I came around to watching the sequel to “Cat People” ( 1942 ): “The Curse of the Cat People” (1944) and it is a totally different thing, but not for that less good. We find Ollie and Alice Reed ( Kent Smith and Jane Randolph reprise their roles ) several years after Irena’s death, married and the parents of beautiful girl
( Ann Carter ), who has an eerie quality to herself, not unlike Irena’s ( Simone Simon. ) She doesn’t seem to belong to the world she lives in; she’s always daydreaming, her schoolmates reject her and find her strange. She‘s pretty much the bullied outsider at school ( something with which I could connect to extremely easily ).
She’s an extremely sensitive and smart kid, with an otherworldly quality and she makes some very unique friends during the film’s duration. A wonderful and beautifully done film. Another masterpiece of the Val Lewton reign at RKO Radio during the 1940s and quite unforgettable. Another film I shall revisit time and time again. Magic.
