IT’S HERE! It’s time for the 2016 Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival.
APRIL 28 ~ MAY 1st, 2016
But first…I prepare for this trip by dropping my iPHONE 4 into a sink full of water.
Pissed…stressed…I had to get to the Apple store to get a new phone, quick, fast and in a hurry. Well…this curse may really have been a blessing in disguise. It takes great pictures.
For four days a year I get to wallow in classic films…in historic venues…
…with festival friends who are just as gah gah as I am about movies from Hollywood’s Golden Era.
This is the seventh year of TCM’s premiere event and my sixth straight year of attending. ( I should have trusted my instincts and gone to its first one back in 2010. ) I admit it is crushingly disappointing that Robert Osborne is not here for the second year in a row. He is the host…the FACE of TCM and I’ve attended screenings where he’s introduced films and its stars and witnessed him receiving just as much enthusiastic applause as the celebrity or film he is introducing. I’m hoping, as everyone else is, he is in good health and spirits and send my well wishes.
If you wish to go down memory lane with me, you can see video footage I took at the 2012 Festival and the 2013 Festival by clicking on the passes below:

BUT FIRST WE’RE GOING TO PARTAAAAY LIKE IT’S 1935!!
There were a number of pre-festival soirees thrown by different Passholders. We’ve got our own fan’s informal pool party, Kelly Wickersham’s event where she invites a guest speaker for the group. Then there’s Christy Putnam having her own swanky soiree and Marya E. Gates hosts an informal get-together at the famed Formosa ( sadly now closed ).
Please click on any number of the below events, which will open up to a page full of photos, easy to navigate through and get you back here…to home base. Putting this together really brought back some nice memories. I hope you enjoy my take on TCM’s film festival. Thanxxx!

THE RED CARPET
Not only are the stars in our eyes…but the sun is in the eyes too of fans who walk down that red carpet. I usually get there early and sit in the bleachers so I can photograph the event. At least this year they had us wait in the shade. TCM’s on-camera director, Sean Cameron emcees this event. Click on Sean’s photo to see what I saw.

Hi there Christy. I hadn’t been very excited about the festival this year…but the excitement quotient did rise as I was putting this piece together. I’m so happy to have included you in this. Glad you’re enjoying it.

Thanks for sharing all these memories. Your photos are STUNNING. I think it’s a good thing the old iPhone fell into the drink. 😉

I didn’t hear about The Formosa closing until just now. That sucks, but I’m sure an adequate surrogate will be found.
